Work Smarter, Not Harder? You still have to work hard!

We’ve all heard the phrase “work smarter, not harder” and probably more times than we care to. Of course it’s always linked to how you can be more successful. Of course it makes sense…work smarter so you don’t have to work harder. Now here is where the majority of people miss the boat. Success is most always “hard work”. Take a look at nearly every successful person you know or have heard of and hardly any of them will tell you that it’s been easy breezy.

Truth is the most successful people are some of the hardest workers. However when it comes to selling something they know that making everything sound easy is the way to sell. Make it seem like you will achieve overnight success with little or no work and you’ve got yourself a sale.

The phrase seems to be taken as if you don’t have to work hard at all but rather only work smarter. Well actually I read it a bit differently. It’s says work smartER not hardER. It doesn’t mean that there is no hard work involved but that by working smartER than you are now, then you may not have to work hardER than your already hard work. This make sense for anyone who is truly dedicated and achieved any level of success in their lives.

Athletes make take supplements to increase their overall effectiveness but they understand that it’s no substitute for training, hard work, and dedication. It’s an aid.

How many times do we get spam emails or legitimate emails (for that matter) about the next “wonder product” that will save you from all of the trials of “hard work.” Just pay the low monthly fee of $149 and we’ll do all of your hard work for you while you sit back and watch your bank account grow.

You know the story…it’s always the same story just different names injected here and there. Formula seems to be promise overnight success with little or no work and super low costs and inject product. Actually the only thing that these products ever turn out to be successful at is getting your money :) .

I’m not sure when it will click but one thing is for sure. I talk to a lot of business owners who know the that they’ve achieved their success by being willing to work hard and doing so. What’s frightening is that, with all said and done they can still be sweet talked by a smooth talking sales person promising them exactly what they know has not been the case in their success. In most cases if you ask them they will say there is no substitute for hard work. Why is it then that these tactics work despite what you’ve proven to be true?
